University of European Studies of Moldova - Tradition, Actuality, Future

University of European Studies of Moldova (USEM) is a higher private education institution.

USEM is a component part of the education system in the Republic of Moldova and activates according to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the Education Law, legislation, its own regulations and decisions, as well as international agreements and conventions signed by Republic of Moldova.

The history of the university begins in 1992. On October 7th the "Law Academy of Moldova" was founded. In 2005 it became University of European Studies of Moldova.

USEM has the mission of continuously promoting and supporting at national and international levels the process of development for certain specific cultural components, which are:

  • the culture of the action based on systematic and innovatory knowledge (the culture of the scientific and technological competence, the organization and civil competence);
  • the culture of the personal and moral development;
  • the culture of the proactive attitude and the culture of participation;
  • the culture of the diversity integration and the culture of globalization, under the condition of respecting the identity and reciprocity.

The main objectives of the University are: preparation, training and retraining of specialists and high-level scientific personnel in various fields to promote scientific research, ensuring aspirations to deepen and expand higher education Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

   USEM promotes the newest educational and informational technologies in teaching and scientific process, which ensure the education of high-level professionals, according to contemporary imperatives, in accordance with the Bologna Process.

   USEM is an institution accredited by the state authorities of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with the current legislation.

   USEM has the legal framework that permits the organization and development of:

The period of studies at the 1st cycle (full-time studies) is:

  • for all specialties from the Faculty of Law – 4 years,
  • for other faculties, specialties – 3 years.

For part-time studies, the period of studies is one-year longer.

The period of studies at the 2nd cycle, for all specializations, is 2 years. An exception are the graduates of the Faculty of Law that chose continue with Master’s degree studies in the same field, i.e. Law – for them the period of studies shall be 1,5 years.

For ensuring the correlation between the development of the legal branch and the European integration of the higher education, USEM drafted and implemented the Curriculum of university education, based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) for all the cycles. New plans of studies, according to the Framework-plan and the List of Specialties, study programs for all the available specialties, attributed to Bologna process requirements.

EUM is paying a special attention to quality management, the control of education process quality, compliance with high-quality standards in higher education, by means of quality committees.

USEM has various extracurricular activities:

The Lawyers Office “Jurisprudența”

“Jurisprudența” is an associated firm of attorneys. In this subdivision, students acquire from their teachers, practicing lawyers, knowledge, practical skills and specific information, which is extremely useful for their future career of lawyers.

The Law Clinic of USEM

In the Law Clinic students, under the guidance of experienced teachers and practitioners, provide legal advice, free of charge, for people who cannot afford a lawyer.

Student Senate

The Students’ Senate aims at assuring the fruitful cooperation between the students and the university management, by means of direct participation of the students in the management process of the University. The students can also contribute to the organization of different scientific activities and educative-cultural events; keep and develop the interaction with students of other similar educational institutions.

Department of International Relations

Contribute to the development of education by adopting a particular strategy:

• Development and introduction of new academic courses;

• Invoking scientific potential overseas university activities;

• Ensuring students’ mobility etc.

USEM has signed collaboration agreements with different universities from Romania, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, France, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria etc.


     ADMISSION

The required documents for application are:

  1. The document of graduation from Your School/Lyceum/College/University.
  2. This graduation document must be translated into Romanian, and has to be validated by our Ministry.
  3. Copy of ID card, and a residence certificate (with 2 copies);
  4. Military certificate or Recruit certificate;
  5. 4 colored photos sized 3x4 cm;
  6. USEM application form. This document will be filled in the University Office.

The studies at USEM are based on a contract, with a tuition fee, in Romanian, Russian and English languages. USEM does not have free of charge courses, but the tuition fee can be paid in installments, if requested.
