Iasi-Czernowitz Conference: Embracing LinguisticCultural Diversity through English

Second Call for Papers
lasi-Czernowitz Conference: Embracing Linguistic&Cultural Diversity through English

Alexandru loan Cuza University of Iaşi, Romania, Faculty of Letters, Department of English
Yuriy Fedkovici University of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, Faculty of Letters, Department of English

12-14 October 2017

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.
Maya Angelou

The novelty and challenge of this conference are determined by its cross-border dimension, with two outstanding universities in their respective countries, enjoying well-respected academic traditions. Its unique context of development is marked by geographical vicinity, by the intercultural dialogue of two areas in which distinct, yet occasionally merging cultures and languages have co-existed. In addition, this scientific event is the joint venture of two Departments of English. Consequently, the main general questions that the conference addresses are: how has the study of English foregrounded cultural and linguistic plurality on our planet? How has it encouraged the assertion of linguistic and cultural identities?
The conference offers a unique opportunity for profitable encounters between participants from the most diverse geographical areas - who are invited to present papers from the perspective of such (inter)disciplines as
•                      ELT
•                      linguistics and stylistics
•                      translation studies
•                      literature, film and the media
•                      cultural studies

Interested participants are invited to send a 300-word abstract and a brief bio-biblio note to the following email address:

Deadline for title submission: June 15, 2017
Deadline for abstract & bio-biblio note submission: 1st July, 2017
Notification of acceptance: July 31st, 2017

The Conference registration fee is EUR 150 (100 EUR for Czernowitz to be paid by September 1st 2017 via PayPal - more on this will soon be published on the conference website, and 50 EUR to be paid in Iasi upon arrival).
